Under The auspices of Dr. Aliya Al-Attar, the Rector of Northern Technical University, and with direct supervision of Dr. Shahla Abdul-Wahab, the Dean of Mosul Technical Institute, the Department of Electrical Techniques conducted a webinar on Feb. 22, 2021, entitled (Utilization of Solar Energy for Electricity Generation)
It dealt with:
- an introduction on solar energy
- pros and cons of solar energy
- comparison between solar panels (single-crystal, bi-crystal, and thin panels)
- system types used in solar energy
- calculation of changing solar radiation and temperatures on the panels
- modern types of inverters
It emphasized the necessity of familiarizing sustainable solar energy through educating the engineering and academic staff. It also recommended that each solar panel should be compatible with the surface on which it would be set-up, in addition to selecting the appropriate systems, for instance, on-grid system, off-grid system, and hybrid-system. In power supply aspects, the compatibility between the batteries and the environment of the area should be taken into account.
This virtual workshop came as completion of sustainable activity workshops held by the Quality Assurance and University Performance Department of the NTU and in cooperation with the Quality Assurance Division of Mosul Technical Institute to raising the Northern Technical University’s rating score within the global classification.
